Turkey Red or Redwork
Antique and Vintage Items featuring the red color known as Redwork or Turkey Red. It is reportedly the first colorfast red dye that became widely available c.1850 and it supposedly originated in Turkey. (hence the name!) The color was quite popular during the entire last half of the 19th century and has also has resurgences of popularity periodically ever since. No wonder! red and white are a fresh and classic color combination! Examples include dyed red damasks, whites embroidered with red thread and jacquards woven with red along with white and other colors.
