A Superb White Linen Sheet Edged with Handmade Bobbin Laces, Embroidered with Crown / Coronet above an "LGR" monogram, dating from pre-revolution Russian Royalty, circa 1890

What it is and why I like it:
A Superb White Linen Faux Sheet Edged with Handmade Bobbin Laces, Embroidered with Crown / Coronet above an "LGR" monogram, dating from pre-revolution Russian Royalty, circa 1890 Everything about this piece is exquisite: the design, workmanship, quality, condition, rarity and provenance.
This spectacular sheet turndown is embroidered with a center medallion embroidered with a large white-work "LGR" monogram beneath a royal crown / coronet surrounded on three sides by handmade Russian bobbin laces. Everything about it is breathtaking and exquisite.
The 42 inch turn-back (aka turndown or return) is handmade bobbin lace made in a traditional squiggly Russian serpentine pattern. It has such a deep return in relation to the length that I have concluded that it is a "faux" or false sheet, a fake sheet with an exquisite turndown that was made only for display. It would have been removed when someone was going to sleep in the bed. It's a weird concept for s 21st century people! This impressive piece was made for "show." Nobody was permitted to actually sleep with something so fine... which is also what has preserved it from damage.
The linen is fine and lightweight; both types of bobbin lace are dreamy and the embroidery is unsurpassed. It is especially beautiful to see in person.
It measures 80" long x 105 inches wide. The condition is pristine. Russia, c.1890s. Stock 19676.
