Magnificent Antique Machine Woven Paisley Shawl with Black Field and Gorgeous Design, 60x124

This wonderful antique paisley wool shawl is very long measuring 60x124". These shawls were the "winter coats" of women in the 19th century and had to be large enough to fit comfortably around and over the large bustles and wide skirts that women wore in the 19th century.

This one has an oblong plain black center surrounded by elongated swirled borders woven with the traditional warm color mix that is predominantly orange. The outermost guard borders have brilliant colors (turquoise, chrome yellow, green and red) and resolve in wispy fringe. This is a machine made shawl with a spectacularly pretty design.

It is in very good condition with some minor wear and holes. I do not consider it compromised in any way; it is a magnificent piece in excellent condition. It measures 60x124". It is offered "as discovered." c.19th century. Stock 9717.
