Magnificent Antique Machine Woven Paisley Shawl with Black Field and Gorgeous Design, 60x124

This wonderful antique paisley wool shawl is very long measuring 60x124" and it is absolutely a brilliant piece, whether one wants to cover a table with it, drape it on a sofa or fling it around one's shoulders.

These shawls were the "winter coats" of women in the 19th century and had to be large enough to fit comfortably around and over the large bustles and wide skirts that women wore in the 19th century.

This one has an oblong plain black center surrounded by elongated swirled borders woven with the traditional warm color mix that is predominantly orange. The outermost guard borders have more brilliant colors (turquoise, chrome yellow, green and red) and resolve in wispy fringe. This is a machine made shawl with a spectacularly pretty design in fabulous condition.

There may be some minor wear and holes but on my most recent inspection, I could not really find any.. I do not consider it compromised in any way; it is a magnificent piece in excellent condition. It is offered "as discovered." c.19th century.
