A Beautiful Antique Handmade White Embroidered Lace Collar with Astonishing Miniscule Handmade Needle Lace Reseau, 4x15"

This antique white lace collar has a deceptively simple but striking design. It is embroidered with tiny star circles. (or perhaps they are also needle made.) It would be interesting to wear, admire and collect. At first glance, this collar looked like a lovely, but more ordinary, piece made of net lace. On second glance, one finds that the mesh of the reseau is actually a hand plaited point lace ground.

Two photos contrast a piece of thread running vertically on top of the collar. The modern thread does not seem heavy or clunky until you look at the tiny multiple twists of the very fine antique threads. Thread this fine has not been made for almost a century.

The condition is mostly excellent but it is not flawless. There are breaks and a rust stain. c.19-20th century. Stock 22438.
