Spectacular White Ramie Antique Tablecloth Embroidered with Butterflies and Flowers, Figural Classical French Figure Insertion, and Squirrels! 76x50"SKU #: 18399
$400.00
This incredible white rice linen (a fabric also known a ricecloth, ramie, a nettle plant fiber) antique tablecover was probably originally made for the Western market, otherwise how could one explain the bonneted French woman in the center!? She is an insertion of lacis and she is surrounded by some amazingly masterful needle work. The flower baskets are fantastic, the work is so very fine. Everywhere, everything is surrounded by embroidered butterflies, dragonflies, moths and other bugs and then.... the borders are full of drawnwork squirrels! The figural elements are rare and unusual; the exquisite work is extraordinary. It's a work of art! It measures 50x76". The condition is pristine even with a slightly discolored area. It has just been laundered and it glows. c. 20th century. Stock 18399. |
