Superb Antique Victorian Turkey Red Crepe Linen Damask Fringed "Splasher" or Protector, 17x27"

This pretty antique white linen damask drawnwork splasher is embroidered with gold and Turkey red in whimsical whorls. It measures 17x27". These were used when every bedroom had a washstand with a basin and pitcher for washing. The splasher was tacked on the wall behind the washstand to prevent the water from ruining the wallpaper. The nearly perfect condition is remarkable, even the drawnwork and the fringe is intact. There is a tiny hole in the top right corner where it was tacked to the wall behind the wash basin.
