A Wonderful White Cotton Antique Blanket Cover Embroidered with Art Deco Border Design, 59x91"

SKU #: 19867
$80.00

This warm white cotton single layer antique bedcover is embroidered with a meandering white Art Deco style border and a small, but charming "ES" monogram in one corner. It has buttonholes along the edges.

It is called a blanket cover and these are no longer used today because we have such plentiful and affordable fabrics everywhere we turn. But this was not the case in the past so this type of blanket protector is not really as odd as it sounds. It was a way to protect your blankets without using too, too, too much fabric. Unlike a duvet cover, it only covers the side of the blanket that would touch your skin. These were used in countries that did not have a tradition of using a top sheet.

It has buttonholes along the edges. It would have been fastened face down to the bottom side of a blanket with double-sided buttons. Now, we come up with more creative uses for them (such as on beds face up instead of down) because the crisp fabrics and decorative adornment are so lovely!

It measures 59x91". The condition is excellent. c. 20th century. Stock 19867.
