Rare and Wonderful Antique White Linen Figural Damask Tablecloth Edged with Bobbin Lace, with Provenance, Embroidered with Crown and Royal "G" Monogram, 72x65"

SKU #: 18023
$1,200.00

This superb white linen damask cloth is woven with a sensational pattern of a family coat-of-arms and is edged and joined with rows of lovely Cluny bobbin lace. The woven pattern is intricate and sharp and the quality is superb. It includes a shield-shaped device surmounted by a bull's head and an eagle. Inside the crest, among other things, are a tower and a bird.

There are four quadrants; each is embroidered with a small crown coronet above a "G" monogram, above the numeral 72. (crown/G/72) This cloth measures 65x72".

The condition is very good, but not flawless because one section has a sprinkling of tiny holes. Otherwise, it is perfect. One would choose this cloth for its rarity, sensational pattern, indisputable age, historic value and provenance. Early 20th century; c. 1900-1915.

Provenance: From Property of a member of the Princely House of Saxe-Meiningen.
