Cynthia's Antique & Vintage Linens
This antique ecru lace runner is spectacular; I almost don't know where to begin to describe it because each and every section of handmade lace is more rare and superb that the one preceeding it! Begin at the top with a lovely urn filled with flowers surrounded by scrolls, all in fine bobbin lace inset into fine cotton. This section is in fine condition. The lace running down the sides is detaching, though. The next band is a figural winged woman outlined in very strong cordonnet. (This panel alone is amazing!) This section is also in fine condition. Next, the central cartouche has a needle point lace cupid picking cherries, surrounded by two birds and a butterfly. The birds are flying at the "putto" to get the cheries although it seems to me that there are plenty of cherries for all of them. This section is also in fine condition. Next is another band of bobbin lace; this one has the most damage but the fills are lovely and interesting even with the holes. Last is another band of bobbin lace with a sea serpent or dragon in the center. This band is in fine condition. It measures 81x18". The condition is good but it is not perfect. It is perfectly rare and exquisite and important. (and beautiful.) Freshly laundered. c.19th century. Stock 20678. $275. Sorry, this item was sold in 2007.
