Superb 19th century Set of Twelve 33x46" White Linen Damask Banquet Napkins, $1850

This is an exceptionally beautiful, impressive and historic set of 12 fabulous napkins. Each one is the size of a dining tablecloth. They are woven with a spectacular pattern of exotic flowers and leaves such as lillies, carnations, tulips, frittilaria, iris and pineapple plants. The glorious white linen fabric is very fine and the pattern is superb. Each one is embroidered with a small "vHB" in one corner above the numeral "72" (vHB/72). The monograms are the tiniest punchwork stitches imaginable, barely discernable until you know what you are looking for.
They are superb, wonderful... rare and breathtaking. They measure 33x46". The condition is excellent but not flawless. There are some wonderful old darned repairs which are extremely difficult to see. Their value is their incomparable quality, beauty, size, rarity, age and provenance. c.19th century.
PROVENANCE: Property of a Dutch Baroness.
