TODAY'S FAVORITE FEATURED ITEM

What it is and why I like it:
A Superb Ancient Russian Kokoshnik Headdress Cap Back Embroidered with Gold and Silver Metallic Threads
This embroidered item / headpiece is an ancient and rare cap, or part of one called a Kokoshnik, an uncommon thing to come across any time. It is intricately embroidered with real gold metallic threads, gold bullion and sequins. It measures 7" high and approx. 7.5" wide.
This item is interesting to me for these reasons:
1. Working with gold thread is extremely difficult. The workmanship is astonishing and it does not take experience to see how tiny and precise the stitches are.
2. It is very old, possibly 18th century.
3. Rare find with interesting history.
4. Interesting, lovely and rare enough to be of interest to a collector.
5. It is also mysterious. I do not know much about these or how or why this one evolved to be what it is today.
