Banquet Tablecloths

Long tablecloths were usually made for (ie. ordered by and woven for) a family for use on a specific table and then they were handed down within families and used over and over and over ... until they were worn out, threadbare, full of holes and were then used as rags.

Usually one will find that large tablecloths were made by hand from the very finest materials: handmade laces, handwoven damasks and hand embroidered with monograms and crests. When lovely ones become available, they are rare, in demand and costly.
