Exquisite Vintage Off White Linen Cutwork 16x42" Runner, Eight 11x15" Placemats and Eight 16" Napkins Embroidered in Mocha with Seashells, Embroidered with "S" monogram from Madeira Portugal

This superb 17-piece cutwork placemat set is exquisitely embroidered with an elaborate floral and seashell (like a lion's paw shell) design. Not only is the design particularly beautiful, the expertise of the embroidery is stupendous. The curving scrolls of the "S" monograms can make you weep. Well, maybe not you, but they certainly have that effect on me. It is wonderful to have a complete set, to. There are eight napkins, eight placemats and a runner and all are works of a needlewoman's artistry.

The condition is excellent. The placemats have been used but the napkins were not. One of the placemats has a small separation near one edge. The napkins were never used, nor laundered until now. Superb and beautiful. From Madeira, c. 20th century. Stock 23409.
