Spectacular and Magnificent Antique White Linen Figural Italian Wedding Sheet Embroidered with Beguiling Cherubs and "NC" Monogram, King Sized 98x105"

This exquisite white linen wedding sheet will charm you with its cavorting cherubs, wonderful flowers, drawnwork borders and its beautiful symmetrical design, all masterfully embroidered with wonderful stitches.

The bodies of the cupids are embroidered with a satin stitch that is reminiscent of Swiss Appenzell work. It is rare, desirable and collectible, as well as beautiful. It has two "invisibly joined" vertical seams. Some of the cupids, or "putti" as they are known in Italian, have wings and some do not but I don't know why they vary.

It is also embroidered with a large "NC" or "CN" monogram and the words "Sempre Felici" which mean "Happiness Forever" or "Happiness Always" in Italian.

This sheet is particularly rare and desirable because of its figural subject matter, beautiful stitchery, fine linen fabric, large size and its fabulous condition. It measures 98x105". King, or even, queen size.

The condition is excellent. And, to top it off, it is a trillion times prettier in person! Very often, these sheets were ordered for a trousseau and were sometimes never used. Or, they were used for a week and then put away "for good." This one is exceptional. c. 19th-20th century.
