An Exceptional Antique Ivory Net Lace Twin Bedcover and Matching Layover Pillow Sham Encrusted with Heavy Battenberg Tape Lace and Appliqued with Flowers

SKU #: 18885
$350.00

This superb antique ivory cotton net lace bedspread and matching double layover pillow sham each have a large central medallion of Battenberg lace. The tapes are large and form a wonderfully Baroque design in the center.

They also have an unusual feature: a design of applied flowers with heavy cording that form curlicues and vines. The bedspread has a rectangular central panel which is divided by a lattice border of zigzag tapes; there are Battenberg lace cartouches in the corners of this panel. The large elliptical medallion is enclosed with a three-dimensional flower vine that has been appliqued to the net lace. It also has cut corners to fit a four poster bed.

The medallion on the sham is oriented horizontally, flanked by a simpler applied vine, lattice borders and a long plain ruffle. Although it was made for a twin sized bed, you may use it anywhere!

The coverlet measures 52x58" and the sham is 34x92". The condition is excellent, though not perfect; there are a few breaks and separations. c. 1900-20s. Stock 18885
