Wonderful Antique Figural Tan Filet Crochet Lace Runner or Layover Pillow Sham with Cherubs Chasing Butterflies, 18x66"

This appealing antique filet crochet lace runner is long and lovely. It features a central flower basket flanked by two winged cherubs tying ribbons to the basket followed by two more winged cupids playing with and chasing butterflies (or, as someone else saw it: releasing doves.)

The border design is a series of big happy butterflies. The design is charming and the large size is charming! These type of scenes are harder to make especially in this very large size. It may also have been made as a layover sham. This piece would be pretty on a table, but also could be used at the bottom or top of a bed or as a window valance or wall hanging.

It measures 18x66". The condition of the crochet is excellent, it is thick, heavy and beautifully made. It is tan, the color of a cafe latte. The condition is mostly excellent except for a pale stain in the center. There is also a deeper stripe across the top made from thread from a different dye lot. The stripe is not particularly noticeable, but it is there. It is utterly charming in person, c. 20th century. Stock 1228
