This incredible and rare German strongbox is in excellent working condition and it still has its original key. Inside is a 17th century oil painting of a hen and chicks at sunset. This was painted on the metal cover that conceals the intricate locking mechanism. This box would have been bolted to the ceiling or to the floor to make it theft-proof and, when opened and unbolted from within, it had the advantage of also being portable. It is very heavy, but one person (with a strong back) can carry it. It measures 9.5" high by 17" wide by 9.5" deep. These seldom come to market and are very sought after by collectors.
