Exquisite Pair of Antique French White Linen Layover Shams embroidered with Extraordinary Whitework Flowers and Very Large "DAB" monograms, 29.5"

This superb pair of antique fine white linen single layer pillow shams is embroidered with extraordinary whitework "DAB" monograms inside a central oval shaped cartouche of flowers and leaves. They are embellished with minute needle made fills, also sewn by hand.

The close-up photographs show the tiny single stitches that were used as fills. They are also hemstitched. This quality of work is not made any more and has not been made for a hundred years.

They have a few straps on the back corners that would have looped over a pillow to hold them in place. They measure approx. 29.5" square. The condition is excellent. French, 19th century.
