This exceptional banquet tablecloth is a work of art. It features a jazz age fish and sealife theme with rhythmic Art Deco motives tying them together. For color, condition and beauty, this cloth is unparalleled. It is a sixteen foot long banquet-sized, fairly sheer cotton lawn tablecloth with applique decoration on a white ground with a seafoam green border, polychrome fish and aquatic motif. The fish, dolphins and seashells are embroidered so naturalistically that they look real. The flowing, curving swirlis are stylized seaweed, kelp and mantles of seashells. Some swirls are appliqué and some are embroidered. The colors are vibrant and lively, and the embroidery is superb. It is embroidered in tambour work, a chain stitch technique. It measures 16' long X 6' 6" wide. (192" x 78"). It was never used; its condition is pristine. This absolute masterpiece was deaccessioned from the collection of the Museaum of Fine Arts Boston.
