Long, Exceptional and Rare Antique Figural Fringed White Linen Handwoven Towel with Birds, 27x89"

This fabulous figural woven white linen towel has a design with birds and ends in 7" long fringe. It came from the collection of a woman who traveled during the early 20th century in pursuit of collectible linens, laces and stitches. She mounted exhibitions of textiles. She, herself, wove and wrote on the subject of the "Spanish Stitch."

The lightweight white linen towel has a wonderful weave and drawnwork border with small birds. I outlined a bird in black to make it more visible but they are much easier to see in person.

In the photos, I am trying to show the extraordinary weave and texture of the fabric. No photo can prepare you for its surprising large size, though! It is wonderful in person. It measures 27x75" not including the 7" fringe on each end. It is gorgeous and looks great. It would make a dramatic tablecloth or runner. It has some flaws including a permanent gray stain. (pretty small flaw considering the extreme length of this piece) c.19th century.

Stock 12919. $45.
